GUIDING EYES FOR THE BLIND
For the past three years, whenever our Sunday School youngsters put money in the offering plate during their classtime, we send the money at the end of the year to the Guiding Eyes for the Blind School in Yorktown Heights, NY. Members of our church and Sunday School attended the graduation ceremonies at their school, where we have been amazed at their sucessful efforts to enhance independence for persons who are visually impaired. Vivian Kyek also designed and placed at the back of sanctuary a cannister for collecting loose change to send to the school. Thus far in 2018 we have collected $130!
One way you can learn about the school is by reading about them at their website https://www.guidingeyes.org or befriending them on Facebook. Another way is to attend worship on Sunday, August 12 when the Rev. Cheryl Fisher, a graduate of the Guiding Eyes for the Blind will preach and share a story for the children. Cheryl is an engaging speaker who has written several inspirational books for children about coping with disabilities. If you visit her webpage http://www.cherylmcneilfisher.com, you can learn how she has faced and surmounted the challenges of blindness by tapping into the resources of her faith in Christ.
She will bring her guide dog and offer advice for children (and adults) on the proper etiquette for interacting with a person who has a guide dog.
I am confident that children will particularly benefit from meeting Cheryl, so I encourage you to make a point of coming to worship on Sunday, August 12.
